As a dedicated supporter of the Dumb Friends League, you probably know that we are deeply committed to providing access to veterinary care for all people and pets in need, regardless of ability to pay. Since 2018, our Veterinary Hospital at Yuma has offered accessible urgent care services and mobile vaccine clinics, as well as subsidized spay/neuter surgeries for owned and feral cats. Our primary goals have always been to end pet homelessness and relieve animal suffering by reducing all barriers to accessing care, such as those related to income, language, and location.

In early 2022, we will expand this inclusive approach at our new Veterinary Hospital at CSU Spur. In partnership with Colorado State University (CSU), this additional, donor-subsidized clinic located in Denver’s Elyria-Swansea neighborhood will allow us to serve more people and animals than ever before.

At CSU Spur, accessibility will take on many forms, including:

  • Exceptional veterinary care offered to people and animals from under-resourced communities
  • Field placements for CSU veterinary students to gain hands-on experience under the supervision of seasoned veterinarians
  • Unique learning programs, including bilingual humane education and opportunities for the public to watch live surgical procedures
  • Exposure to veterinary and STEM-related careers for young people so they can envision themselves in these roles

Perhaps most importantly, expanding access to care at our Veterinary Hospital at CSU Spur will help animals thrive by keeping them healthy and in loving homes. Companion animals are often relinquished to shelters like ours because pet owners do not have the resources to support their care. At the Dumb Friends League, we know that the bonds we share with our pets are essential, and we are committed to nurturing these connections for every person and animal who comes through our doors.

We hope you’ll join us as we celebrate this exciting next chapter for our organization! We invite you to attend our family-friendly Community Day on Thursday, January 6 from 5-8 p.m., and our Open House on Wednesday, January 19 from 6-8 p.m. If you plan to attend our Open House, kindly RSVP by January 10 to Vicky Hart at vhart@ddfl.org or 720.241.7133.
