Colorado State University will host the inaugural Water in the West Symposium April 26-27 at McNichols Civic Center Building in Denver.
More than 400 leaders from industry, academia, nonprofits, and the public sector are expected to attend and engage in discussions bridging rural and urban interests. Topics will range from food systems and beer production to recreation and conservation.
Speakers will include Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue, Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, Denver Mayor Michael Hancock, Former Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, and more. See the complete speaker lineup here.
The Symposium will also host a forum for Colorado’s gubernatorial candidates to discuss the most pressing water issues in our state and the American West.

Colorado State University and the National Western Center
Colorado State University has made a long-term commitment to the reimagining of the National Western Center in north Denver, and the communities surrounding the project. Efforts are under way to create partnerships with community schools, nonprofits and businesses, and to actively engage in the community.
A key and founding partner in the National Western Center, CSU will have three buildings within the 250-acre campus upon completion. The project, which will break ground in the coming years, expands and regenerates the current National Western Stock Show site, turning it into a vibrant, year-round experiential, community-centric, life-long learning destination in the heart of Denver.
The first of CSU’s buildings to be created is a state-of-the-art Water Resources Center (WRC). The WRC will offer collaborative space for partners and stakeholders in agriculture, utilities, academics, and recreation, focusing on policy, innovation, education, and research. The facility will be capable of hosting multidisciplinary programs and water conferences, designed to attract students and community members of all ages.
As Colorado’s land-grant university, CSU’s mission of research, service, and access, fits with the outreach mission of the National Western Center. CSU’s plans at the new campus focus on research and education programming in the areas of food systems, water, environment, energy, and health.
